Update -Students Raise More Than $25,000 for Foundation

When challenged to raise $11,200 for Steven's CORD Foundation to earn a day off of school De Smet students responded … in a phenomenal fashion.

Demonstrating that they are truly "Men for Others," De Smet Jesuit students and members of the De Smet community more than doubled their goal in a span of five days, raising more than $25,000 for the foundation through the sale of ping pong balls.

Each $5 donation enters one ping pong ball into a race and represents one opportunity to win the grand prize of $500. Racing will take place during the school's annual Mission Week, when more than 4,500 ping pong balls will take off in preliminary heats beginning February 11 with the final sprint scheduled for February 14.

Steven's CORD Foundation, a non-profit group formed by the family of a De Smet Jesuit junior who is battling a rare spinal tumor, will be presented with a check at Mass honoring Father Pierre De Smet's birthday on Thursday, January 17.

No classes will be held on January 18, in recognition of the outstanding fundraising drive, or on January 21, Martin Luther King Day.

Be sure to catch several students who were instrumental in the fundraiser's success on KSDK's "Today in St. Louis" on Monday, January 14, between 6:15 a.m. and 6:45 a.m.

Special thanks to our sponsors SM WilsonPepsi and Food Service Consultants.
